How much does the 889 2016/2017 200-Hour Living Yoga School (LYS) cost?

The full program tuition is $5,050 + HST which consists of over 200 contact hours with your faculty.

Is this course registered with the Yoga Alliance?

Yes, 889 is a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified school, and our LYS is a Yoga Alliance certified program for which you will receive a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certificate if you graduate.

Who is the Yoga Alliance?

The Yoga Alliance is a North American body which regulates standards for yoga teacher training. If you complete training at a Yoga Alliance Registered School you can apply to be added to their registry for yoga teachers. 889 Yoga is a registered school.

Do I have to complete the entire 200-hour course?

To qualify for your 200 Hour Yoga Alliance certificate, you must have attended every class, and completed homework, class observations, practicum, and the final take-home exam.

Can I take some parts of the entire course?

Yes! If you do not wish to take the full 889 2016/2017 200-Hour Living Yoga School (LYS), we have created Living Yoga School Modules for members of our community to choose from. These modules are derived from the core content of the program. You may choose any single or combination of these Living Yoga Modules as continued education for your yoga studies. Our Modules for 2016/2017 form a large portion of our 200-hour Living Yoga School.

What is the schedule of the LYS?

For specific dates and details, please see CALENDAR. This program is built for people who work, are at home with kids or who, in general, can only do the course during non-working hours. We seek to make doing 200-hours convenient for you!

More generally, the highlights of the schedule for this program include:

*only 3 full weekdays to commit to for the Elemental Vinyasa Retreat at the Shanti Retreat Centre on Wolfe Island! The cost of the retreat is included in the program fee (Mon-Wed: Oct 17, 18, 19)

*lectures/practices every Wednesday and Thursday night for the duration of the program (with the exception of a few weeks where we have a day-off or a holiday)

*training 2 weekends of every month (all weekend trainings are set up to run Saturday and Sunday 12-6:30pm with the exception of Anatomy which will run Friday night and Saturday)

*a break for the holidays will run from December 16 – January 4 inclusive

Is there an early-bird discount?

There is an early bird MEMBERSHIP INCENTIVE! Pay upfront for the program by September 1st and receive a BONUS MEMBERSHIP for your own personal practice of up to 7 months (# of months depends on date of payment). See our Highlights and Tuition page for full details.

Note: the membership BONUS is not included if you pay on a payment plan. You must pay for your 889 Membership separately.

Note: as a 200-hour LYP candidate you are required to complete 40+ hours of in-studio personal practice over the duration of your course.

Do you have a payment plan for the 200 hour LYS?

Yes! The payment plan is as follows:

A $500+HST non-refundable deposit is required upon registration to hold your space. If you cancel at any point, this deposit is not returned. This secures your spot.

Once the deposit is paid, the remaining cost of the program+HST will be divided up by the number of months from your first payment date until November 30, 2016. The first month is a pro-rated amount based upon the day of the month you start. Equal payments follow.

If you are making payments under our payment plan, full payment is required to be complete by November 30, 2016. If payment fails to meet these deadlines, the student will not be permitted to continue the program until payment is made.

Payment plans may only be paid by credit card. No cash, no debit, no personal cheques.

*Modules (for students not registered in the full 200-hours) must be paid in full upon registration.

Is there a deposit?

Yes. A minimum $500+HST non-refundable deposit is required upon enrollment to hold your space. This $500+HST deposit becomes part of your payment towards your tuition and is never refundable.

What is the refund/cancellation policy for the 200 hour LYS?

To cancel enrolment in the 889 2016/2017 200-Hour Living Yoga School (LYS) you must cancel in writing to our Program Director, Emily Ridout at emily@889yoga.com no later than August 1, 2016 at 12pm.  All payments made with respect to the 889 2016/2017 200-Hour Living Yoga School (LYS) will be refunded, except for the $500 non-refundable deposit.

What method of payment do you accept?

We accept Cash, Visa, Mastercard, AMEX and Debit if you are paying in full. If you are paying by payment plan, you must pay by credit card. We do not accept personal cheques.

When should I register to be accepted for the course?

We expect all 30 spaces to fill quickly and recommend that you secure your space in full or with a deposit and start your payments today!

How many hours per week will be required of me during the program?

Over the duration of this 5-month course the weekly commitment varies. See Calendar.

What is the difference between contact and non-contact hours?

Contact hours are hours in the presence of a faculty member whose experience and credentials qualify them to teach the Living Yoga School. You could call these classroom hours. Non – contact hours are supplementary hours you spend studying to support your classwork, like reading, personal practice, homework, preparation, etc. The Yoga Alliance requires a minimum of 180 contact hours in each 200-hour level training, and 65-hours with Lead Trainers. The LYS program has over 200 contact hours.

How many contact hours is the LYS?

The 889 2016/2017 200-Hour Living Yoga School (LYS) has over 200 hours of contact and direct learning with your faculty.

What is the homework expectation?

Your teachers have suggested text books that are required, and also some that are highly recommended. You should allow 2-3 hours per week for reading, homework, and preparation for discussions in class for the program. Reading List.

When should I start my readings?

We highly recommend you begin reading as soon as you make your commitment to the course! Start a journal and begin to make notes on things that interest you, confuse you, or stimulate questions so that you can bring them to the course and gain the most benefit from your teachers’ and peers’ knowledge.

What is the cost of the text books?

The cost of text books are not included in the price of the course. The cost of the required text books is approximately $250+HST. All make excellent and valuable additions to your personal yoga library whether you are a teacher or dedicated student. It’s a beautiful collection of resources you will use far beyond the program.

What happens if I miss a class?

In order to receive your certificate you must attend every class. Make-up classes may be available at $105+HST/hour, one-on-one with your faculty. 100% attendance is strongly recommended, as the faculty may not be available for make-up classes as they often travel to teach yoga around the globe.

Where is 889 Yoga?

Our facilities are conveniently located in downtown Toronto, at 889 Yonge Street. We are just a four minute walk from the Rosedale subway station and an eight minute walk from Bloor Station.

May I pick my mentor?

You will be assigned a mentor to guide you through the 200 hour program. This will be an experienced 889 Yoga teacher whom you can contact for support for a total of 3 hours whilst the course is running. If you already have a connection with one of our experienced 889 teachers, we will do our best match you with a mentor of your choice, or we can partner you with a mentor that is best suited to your needs. You will observe classes taught by your mentor. It is a beautiful opportunity, one that all of our graduates value very much.

Can you guarantee a job at the end of the course?

We cannot guarantee a teaching opportunity with 889 Yoga upon completion of the 200-hour course. Our intention is to nurture our graduates by providing volunteer teaching opportunities through our Karma889 Program. This includes volunteer teaching at inner-city schools through Karma889 and teaching our 889 LYS karma class on the studio schedule. All donations from this class go to the 889 LYS Scholarship Fund. Further, we provide an opportunity to assist 889 teachers in classes, and participate in our 889 Energy Exchange Program. We also have teacher demos every January and July for any teacher wishing to audition to become a Supporting Teacher at 889 Yoga. We encourage our graduates to get out in the community and practice teaching to gain real on-the-mat experience. This is truly the best starting point as a teacher!

Will there be a final exam?

Yes, there will be a final written exam for you to submit and reflect upon all you have learned over the course of your program. This will include written reflections, as well as a live teaching component. It’s a beautiful process and closure to the program. The exam will be handed out and completed in February 2017.

Is the 200-hour Living Yoga School tax deductible?

Yes, we are able to offer TA220a tuition tax receipts for this 200-hour program. You will receive this tax receipt at your graduation ceremony.

If I am a student of the 889 200-hour Living Yoga School, do I receive discounts on products and services at 889?

Absolutely! 200-hour Living Yoga School students receive several perks. You will receive complimentary mat storage for the duration of the program, a complimentary small or large towel on each visit, 15% off The 889 Shop, discounts on 889 special events + more.

How many hours must I complete of yoga asana practice to graduate?

40 hours of personal yoga asana practice are required to graduate from the 889 2016/2017 200-Hour Living Yoga School (LYS). Up to 5 hours of this can be from classes outside the 889 Yoga studio, or personal practice at home. 35 hours are required to be practiced at 889 over the duration of the program.

Do you have a Scholarship Program for the LYS?

Yes! We are excited to announce that 889 will offer ONE scholarship spot for the incoming 2016-2017 889 LYS. All donations collected from our weekly 889 LYS karma class on the schedule taught by our LYS graduates will go towards funding this scholarship. Did I hear RETREAT?

Yes, our 2016/2017 LYS Program includes a RETREAT! See the Calendar for details. This “Elemental Vinyasa” retreat is October 17-19 (Mon-Wed), is led by Nicky Poole and is at the Shanti Retreat Centre on Wolfe Island. The cost of this retreat is included in the LYS program fee.

How do I register through a 889 Living Yoga School AFFILIATE?
