I came across the clip on YouTube at least a year ago, and it has remained one of my favourite online discoveries. The project highlighted here is called Playing for Change, “a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music”. When I first watched the video, I remember being totally enthralled with the concept of bringing musicians together in so many parts of the world. As each performer is added and the collaboration grows, this turns into something truly spectacular.
Last year, I was fortunate to be in the audience at The Phoenix, when members of this ensemble, including Grandpa Elliot, brought their multi-national talent to Toronto. It was an incredible show, with musicians representing communities around the globe, from New Orleans to The Congo.
Now that “Stand by Me” has nearly 25-million views on YouTube, Playing for Change continues to grow and spread its message of “peace through music” worldwide. I invite you to take a look and get inspired….
